SONIC Special Needs

SONIC is a special needs program created to provide an environment that makes it possible for EVERY individual to achieve and succeed.

North Shore Gymnastics is dedicated to meeting the needs of all individuals ages 18 months to adults. Our facility provides those of all abilities an opportunity to enjoy physical activity. Movement is a fundamental necessity for positive physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth. No matter what challenges your child faces, our staff works diligently to help them overcome those barriers.

With the proven SONIC special needs curriculum and training, North Shore Gymnastics will work with each individual to ensure their needs are met at each stage of development and growth. We value each individual’s potential based upon their individual abilities.

Sonic Offerings at NSGA

In a private one on one session, your child works with our staff at their own pace on goals specific to each child’s individual needs. Private sessions can be 30 or 60 minutes in length.

Children with similar abilities will participate in a fitness session alongside their peers. Movements are adapted based on physical ability. Group Sessions are created by parents and the NSGA staff working together to build the class.

  • Children participate in a typical gymnastics or fitness class. Movements are modified and performed with supervision during the class.
  • North Shore offers a Special Olympics team: call 763-479-3189 for details!

"Our staff were so impressed!"

Our class of 7th-12th grade students with mild-severe developmental disabilities recently took a field trip to experience the North Shore Gymnastics Sonic Program. Our staff were so impressed with the Sonic team and their ability to adapt activities to meet our students' varying needs and interests. As an occupational therapist, I can see that this program has the ability to improve motor planning, problem-solving, activity endurance, flexibility, sensory processing and team building skills for children of all ages and ability levels.

"She experienced new sensations that are unachievable in her daily routine."

"Afton loves movement and the sensation of moving, but because of her highly limited physical abilities, she requires outside help to achieve these sensations. At North Shore Afton got to try things that she has never done or experienced before on a mental and physical level. She experienced new sensations that are unachievable in her daily routine or in standard clinical therapies."
